Curve Digitizer – Extracting Data from Datasheet Curves and Scientific Images

In progress

The Curve Digitizer pulls numbers out of curves that only exist as drawings: scanned datasheets, old plots, instrument screenshots, micrographs. It started as a standalone program and has become a GX-TXT viewer.

Inside GX-TXT the image is a Session Dataset, the digitization work lives in configurations stored in the Session (the viewer does not use workspaces), and the result is a Dataset with its provenance, which plots and the fitter read without reopening the digitizer.

Calibration is projective on four points, with an independent residual check and repeatable calibrations of the same plot. Curve families are published with their parameter value. For photographs and SEM images there is scale-bar calibration and image processing that leaves geometry untouched.

The version described here, viewer 1.2.17, will ship in GX-TXT release 0.9.8.10-dev-98 and is compatible with dev-96. It is not 100% complete, but barring bugs it is the version the framework will be released with.

The viewer will keep evolving, and this page collects the articles, manual and videos for each step. The full presentation is in the article Digitizing Datasheet Curves in GX-TXT: the Curve Digitizer Viewer; the videos are in the GX-TXT English playlist on YouTube.
